Whole Poaka Free Range, pasture raised pigs, processed on Farm in our own micro abattoir. Low stress, guaranteed provenance, best quality and flavour! Available from between 35kg and 55kg carcass weight. Local Christchurch deliveries on Friday each week, delivery available to most major cities and towns in New Zealand, please enquire before purchasing if outside the Christchurch area. Our smaller free range pigs (35 – 45kg) are perfect for smaller roasts and are generally leaner. The larger pigs, 45kg – 55kg are perfect for fresh pork cuts. All our free range pigs are cut in half and then each 1/2 is cut into a minimum of 1/3’s (shoulder/loin+belly/hind leg) + head, wrapped and boxed. We have options for further processing your free range poaka pig.
How does buying a whole Poaka free range pig work?
- Select the size pig you would like to purchase, either 35-45kg or 45-55kg. We will always try to select a pig that averages in the middle of theses weight ranges, 40kg or 50kg, however due to many variables, there will be a range in the weights.
- Select the degree of butchering you would like your pig processed to:
- Basic: Whole Poaka Pig, cut into 1/2 and then each half is cut into 1/3’s. The shoulder, loin, bellies, hams and head are left whole for you to further process. This is the most economical way to purchase a whole poaka pig.
- Intermediate: Whole Poaka Pig, cut into 1/2 and then each 1/2 is cut into 1/3’s. We then bone out the head and turn into approx 4 x 500g packs of sausages and bone out the hams and turn into pork mince, pack in 1kg packs. The shoulders, loin and bellies are left whole for you to further process as you wish.
- Fully Butchered: Whole Poaka Pig, cut into 1/2 and then each 1/2 is cut into 1/3. We then bone out the head and turn into approx 4 x 500g packs of sausages along with any other trim. The shoulders are cut into pork roasts. The hams are boned out and turn into pork mince packs of 1kg. The loin is cut into pork chops and bellies are cut into belly portions and pork strips. All meat is vacuum packed ready for the freezer.
- We then Package your pig and get ready for delivery
- Any whole cuts, i.e whole loins, shoulders, heads, hams etc are packed in loose plastic wrapping and will require further packing if going to be frozen, i.e vacuum packed.
- Sausages, Mince and any processed cuts, i.e pork chops will be vacuum packed in approx 1kg bags ready for the freezer.
- Your whole cuts and any butchered (vacuum packed) cuts are then packed in a box ready for delivery
- Delivering your whole pig
- Local Christchurch deliveries, these will be delivered each Friday to your door.
- Deliveries outside christchurch to major towns and cities will be delivered to the nearest chilled depot for you to collect. We will let you know where this is and a timeframe.
